Types of Countertops We Offer

Today I want to talk to you about what types of countertops we offer, fabricate, and install.

Mainly, what we’re doing are stone countertops. Stone countertop materials includes travertines, marbles, granites, soapstones, and anything else that’s quarried out of the earth. This also includes quartz. Quartz is a naturally quarried material that’s made in a factory, compressed and glued together with polymers to act like a naturally quarried material except denser.

We don’t offer non-stone countertop materials. So that includes Formica, which is basically particle board laminated; Corian, which is basically a product made in a factory with chemicals; and it includes stuff like cultured marble which is also kind of similar to Corian.

THE PROBLEM WITH MARBLE COUNTERTOPS

We definitely want to give you guys the best possible product which is why we don’t fabricate marble anymore. Marble is a countertop that is very porous, stains extremely easily, etches very easily, meaning it physically gets damaged by water spots, lime juice, discolorization, cleaning products. It scratches really easy from your plates, your cups, just handling it. And walking the countertop into your house, it could scratch. I’m not saying that it’s guaranteed to have a problem. I’m just saying it’s such a large probability that we no longer work with it anymore.

Another one of those kitchen countertops that kind of falls in that marble category is travertine. Travertine is a countertop that is just so porous, it sucks everything into it. Now, we’re talking about travertine and limestone as well. You could dump tons and tons and tons of sealer on it and still probably would suck a stain if you didn’t wipe it off immediately as you use your kitchen.

For me, as much as I love the look of these stones, the travertine and the marbles, when I want to use my kitchen on a day-to-day basis, I personally do not want to be working so hard for my kitchen to look good. I’ve personally had marble countertops before and, after two weeks – and I sealed them 20 times with the best sealer on the face of the earth – I just stopped using them. That’s just a terrible way to use your kitchen.

I’m not telling you guys what to do. If you love marble, and you still want to use it, you could hire another company, and you wouldn’t hurt my feelings. But what we try to stick to is granite, mainly, quartz, and we do a little bit of soapstone.
