The flat edge never goes out of fashion. It’s great for both modern and traditional styled bathrooms and kitchens. It’s a simple, flat edge that has always been popular and probably always will be.
The hall bullnose edge is a bit more traditional countertop edge. The edge is rounded at the top and flat at the bottom. It’s safer for kids and matches the style of homes with lots of rounded edges.
Most people don’t go with a full bullnose anymore, which is when both the top and bottom of the countertop edge are rounded. It tends to look a bit thinner, but the main reason it isn’t used much is because the water coming off your countertop will follow the curvature of the edge and cascade all the way against your cabinets. This can cause water damage.
This is when the top of the countertop edge is cut off at a 45-degree angle. You can get either a small bevel or a big bevel cut for a countertop edge.
There are other options than these four. However, these are the most traditional edges that will still be in fashion 40 years from now. If you go for a more styled countertop edge, it will date your house. The more fancy or detailed the edge is, the faster it tends to go out of style.
